How to Effectively Wash your Hair for the Best Results.
These simple yet effective tips for a renewed approach to your hair care regime.
1. Hair Preparation
Brushing: Use a brush with dense bristles to remove tangles and styling products. Start from the ends and work towards the scalp. Once detangled, brush from the scalp upward in a semi-circular motion to spread natural oils and stimulate the scalp by moving the natural oils through the stands of hair.
2. The Shampooing Process
Wetting the Hair: Thoroughly wet the hair from the scalp though to the ends.
Water Temperature: Turn the water to warm and comfortable temperature. Not too hot however as we have just stimulated the scalp blood follow with brushing.
Application: Rub the shampoo in your hands to warm it before distributing it evenly on the scalp area only. Use an amount about the size of a twenty-cent coin for short hair and double that for longer hair.
Massage Technique: Use the balls of your fingers to massage the entire head in a repeated pattern. Work up a good lather, ensuring you reach the hairline, crown, and nape area.
Rinsing: Now rinse the first shampoo lather with warm water.
Second Wash: Perform a second shampoo using the same procedure. This wash will usually lather more easily and requires less product.
3. The Conditioning Process
Application: Remove excess water from the hair, as heavily water saturated hair will not absorb as much product and reduce the effectiveness of conditioning with your hair.
Spread the appropriate amount of conditioner on your hands and work it evenly through the hair using gentle, stroking movements form the end up the strands.. Do not apply it in a single "blob" on top of the head.
Combing: Use a comb to distribute the product evenly, working from the ends of the hair toward the roots to avoid matting.
Timing: Follow the manufacturer’s recommended timing to allow the conditioner to add moisture and close the hair cuticle.
Final Rinse: Rinse thoroughly, paying particular attention to the hairline and nape to ensure no residue remains.
4. After Wash Care
Drying: Gently squeeze out excess water and towel dry the hair lightly as we now have change the hydrogen bond structure of the hair temporarily by washing the hair.
